Polyphony and Silencing in the Israeli Government’s Statements during the Coronavirus Crisis

This article analyzes how the Israeli government communicated its positions during the coronavirus crisis, focusing on polyphony and mechanisms of silencing in official statements. The authors show how government discourse featured a multiplicity of sometimes contradictory voices, and how it shaped hierarchies of legitimacy and presence. Based on discourse analysis, the article examines public statements in a broad socio-communicative context.
