Multimodal Discourse Research

The Department of French Culture is home to leading experts in discourse studies. Prof. Roselyne Koren (Emerita) founded the field in our department and co-launched the world-renowned journal Argumentation et Analyse du discours. Prof. Galia Yanoshevsky explores literary, journalistic, and visual discourse, while Prof. Silvia Adler, a linguist, conducts groundbreaking research on comics.

Building on this tradition, in 2022 we launched a new M.A. track: Verbal and Visual Discourse Studies. This innovative program focuses on the pressing issues of our time and their practical applications in communication, content creation, marketing, and media. It welcomes both fluent French speakers and students currently studying French.

Looking to gain powerful tools for analyzing and organizing verbal and visual information? Want to sharpen your critical thinking skills through hands-on engagement with journalism, social media, politics, economics, culture, and literature—all with a strong French connection?

Then you’ve found the right place!

Led by Prof. Silvia Adler, the program offers flexible paths: M.A. options including a dedicated track for native and advanced French speakers.
