We created this course to offer students a truly hands-on way of learning. Instead of just reading about history, we explored it through riddles and puzzles centered on the people, inventions, and places that have shaped French culture—past and present.
How did the Gallic warrior Vercingetorix lose at Alesia? What ties Émile Zola to Albert Camus? Was Napoleon really poisoned? Did de Gaulle actually flee France? What connects the French Revolution, May ’68, and the Yellow Vests? And what on earth do a hot-air balloon and a hole in a cake have in common?
To wrap up, we stepped into a real escape room—splitting into two teams and putting our skills to the test. The challenge ended not only with laughter and competition but also with a strong sense of camaraderie. It was the perfect finale to a semester of imaginative journeys through France and its history.
