Prof. Gilly Hartal

Geography of sexualities and genders

Associate Professor in the Gender Studies Program at Bar-Ilan University.

My research focuses on a field called the geographies of sexualities, which explores the connections and mutual construction of space (physical, emotional, social, symbolic, and virtual) and LGBTQ+ subjectivities. I have conducted several research projects on homonationalism, queer safe space, LGBTQ+ politics, pride parades and activism, LGBTQ+ political subjectivities, LGBT-phobia, and sexual harassment.

In 2018, together with Dr. Adi Moreno, I founded the LGBT-Queer Research Community in the Israeli Sociological Association. The community was established to provide an academic home for research related to LGBTQ+ issues and queer theory.
