Sivan Spitzer

Dr. Spitzer, an organizational sociologist, conceived, designed, and founded the Russell Berrie Galilee Diabetes SPHERE and serves as its Deputy Director. In addition, Dr. Spitzer is the Principal Investigator of HEAL and Head of Population Health Education at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, Bar Ilan University.

Dr. Spitzer has a B.A. and M.A. in sociology, and a doctorate from the University of Haifa in the Interdisciplinary Track. Dr. Spitzer conducted her postdoctoral training at the Center for Health and the Social Sciences (CHeSS) at the University of Chicago. During her studies in the USA, Dr. Spitzer was selected to participate in prestigious fellowships at the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research and at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities at the American National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Today, in addition to her work at HEAL and SPHERE, Dr. Spitzer chairs the Faculty’s Social Accountability Committee. At HEAL, Dr. Spitzer mentors M.A., PhD and postdoctoral students.
