The Health Equity Advancement Lab – HEAL

Social and economic gaps leading to health inequities have been known for many years. Yet, efforts to reduce these inequities have failed to bring about significant and sustainable results. To ascertain which organizational interventions may drive effective and sustainable change research must be expanded.

HEAL, led by Dr. Sivan Spitzer, develops models for intervention, integrating them into health systems and organizations, in relevant local authorities, and examining results in the field. In recent years, Dr. Spitzer has published numerous articles focusing on: (1) the development of innovative health inequity reduction conceptual models combining theories of organizational change and implementation science; (2) reviews of various intervention methods; (3) evaluation of interventions’ implementation and their effectiveness in reducing health inequities.

Research conducted at HEAL benefits populations such as the elderly, the disabled and people of low socio-economic status in Israel, as well as around the world. Despite the cultural and structural differences between countries and nations, clear similarities exist in the function of health systems and the social challenges they face (low literacy, lack of awareness and inaccessible services) in social and geographic peripheries.
