Procedural Memory - Skill Learning

Developmental Aspects

The lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of skill acquisition, consolidation, and transfer—especially graphomotor skills like handwriting, drawing, and building—and how these processes unfold across different developmental stages and populations. A central theme in her work is the role of practice in shaping children's learning trajectories. The lab has explored how children with developmental disabilities, such as dysgraphia, dyslexia, ADHD, developmental coordination disorder (DCD), and developmental language disorder (DLD), acquire and retain motor-based skills.

Leading projects have examined developmental differences in skill learning, revealing an advantage for adults in the initial phase of skill acquisition and for young children in the time needed to consolidate a skill and consequently in susceptibility to interference.
