Learning in Social Context -Judgments and Stereotyping

Generalization in learning has important implications for social judgments, such as stereotypes. For example, learning about an individual’s act of donation may lead to generalized expectations about their kindness, as well as expectations that others within the same social group will behave similarly. In this line of research, we explore how outcome probability—whether high or low—affects generalization in social situations. This research contributes to the fields of social cognition and person perception by elucidating the mechanisms through which probabilistic associations influence impression formation, stereotypes, and social judgments.
