"The myth of Trombonipus" for Jazz trombone, ensemble and electronics. Commissioned by the 'Israel Contemporary Players'. Conductor Christian Karlsen, Trombone solo Moran Bar on. November 16, Culture Center, Zucker hall, Tel Aviv.
"The myth of Trombonipus" is a paraphrase of the fate of a man repeatedly given monotonous, meaningless tasks that ultimately have no lasting significance. His life, filled with these trivial duties, ends with death, rendering his accomplishments futile. This idea of a pointless and endless struggle was famously discussed by Albert Camus, but Jorge Luis Borges gave a slightly different perspective:
“There is a line by Verlaine that I will not remember again / There is a street nearby that is off limits to my feet / There is a mirror that has seen me for the last time / There is a door I have closed until the end of the world / Among the books in my library (I'm looking at them now) are some I will never open / This summer I will be fifty years old / Death is using me up, relentlessly”. from Inscriptions (Montevideo, 1923) by Julio Platero Haedo
