Pinchas Roth

Pinchas Roth is an associate professor in the Department of Talmud and Oral Law at Bar-Ilan University, where he holds the Milan and Blanca Roven Chair for the Study of Post-Talmudic Halakhah. Since 2025, Roth serves as chairperson of Mekize Nirdamim Society for the Publication of Ancient Hebrew Manuscripts.

Roth wrote his doctoral dissertation (Hebrew University, 2012) under the supervision of Prof. Simcha Emanuel. In 2020 he published, together with Rami Reiner, a critical edition of the responsa of Rabbi Isaac ben Samuel of Dampierre (Ri ha-Zaken). His book In This Land: Jewish Life and Legal Culture in Late Medieval Provence was published by the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies in 2021. His scholarship combines tools from manuscript research, legal history and social history with more traditional modes of research in rabbinic literature.
