German-Israel Foundation (GIF): No. I-260-104.4-2021 “Multilingual families` response to COVID-19: New Opportunities and Challenges.” (2021-2022). PIs: Prof. Natalia Meir (BIU) and Prof. Vladislava Maria Warditz (Universität Potsdam, Germany)

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented changes worldwide, significantly impacting multilingual communities. The project (2021-2022) focused on documenting the language practices of multilingual families in Israel and Germany during the pandemic, examining shifts in language use influenced by micro- and macro-factors, such as family language policy and societal attitudes toward multilingualism. We also evaluated access to remote learning for multilingual children, aiming to highlight challenges and provide a roadmap for fostering harmonious multilingual development post-pandemic. This research underscores the importance of supporting multilingual families and preserving linguistic diversity in an increasingly interconnected world.
