Nanospectroscopy and Nanoimaging

Many important optical phenomena occur on spatial scales much smaller than the wavelength of light and therefore remain hidden in conventional optical measurements. We develop and apply nanospectroscopic and nanoimaging approaches to investigate the optical response of materials and nanostructures with high spatial and spectral resolution.

Our research focuses on resolving localized electromagnetic modes, nanoscale material inhomogeneities, resonant excitations, and spatial variations in optical response. By combining spectroscopy with nanoscale imaging, we seek to connect the local structure and composition of a system with its optical behavior.

These techniques allow us to investigate individual resonators and heterogeneous nanophotonic systems rather than relying solely on ensemble-averaged measurements, providing direct insight into light–matter interactions at the level at which they occur.
