A new study by Dr. Hila Chalutz-Ben Gal, together with Engineering Graduate Student Mr. Oriel Singer and Dr. Alon Sela, has been published in Computers in Human Behavior Reports. The research examines how digital media consumption and interaction with social media platforms influence resilience during emergency situations.

Conducted during the October 7 War, the study explores the relationship between social media information overload, smartphone usage patterns, and individual resilience. The findings suggest that digital interfaces and social platforms may serve not only as sources of information, but also as important coping mechanisms that help users maintain a sense of control and strengthen resilience during crises.

The study also highlights the importance of intentional and conscious interaction with digital platforms. According to the findings, passive and unconscious scrolling behavior was associated with lower quality-of-life indicators, while purposeful and controlled use of digital interfaces contributed positively to resilience and emotional coping.
