Installing Zoom Is Not Enough: Preparing for Work in the COVID-19 Era

This article discusses how organizations are preparing for the “new normal” following the first phase of the COVID-19 crisis.

While remote work, digital communication, and performance-based evaluation were rapidly adopted during the crisis, these changes are expected to persist beyond it. Many organizations are already planning for long-term hybrid work models, with a significant portion of employees not returning fully to office-based work.

Dr. Hila Chalutz-Ben Gal emphasizes that adopting digital tools such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams is not sufficient. Effective remote work requires deeper changes in management practices, organizational culture, and communication processes. Managers must learn to build trust, manage from a distance, and focus on outcomes rather than physical presence.

The article also highlights the need for organizations to develop new capabilities, including digital management routines, employee training, and internal mobility based on skills. These changes reflect a broader transformation toward more flexible, skill-based, and adaptive work environments.
