President Isaac Herzog and his spouse Michal visit the university, 20.10.22
The lab’s research is conducted in fruitful collaboration with archaeologists from various universities and the Israel Antiquities Authority. Our staff actively participates in excavating and extracting plant remains. The team advises the correct extraction method for separating the delicate botanical finds from excavations sediment, following the environmental and soil conditions.
The symposium: Archaeobotany – a new glance on ancient past, organized in collaboration with Kalanit – the Centre of Israel Plants, took place at Bar-Ilan University, 9/1/2020.
The laboratory staff travels abroad for professional archaeobotany conferences of IWGP (International Workgroup for Paleoethnobotany) and in related meetings, such as Wenner-Gren, MINERVA, ICAS-EMME and ASOR.
During Spring 2019, the lab participated at the IWGP conference at Lecce, south Italy. As we were there, we couldn’t resist visiting one of the world’s archaeological key sites – Pompeii.
From time to time, we go out of the lab to explore nature, collecting new seeds for our reference collection, and study the environments where the plants we study grows. In these photos, we tour the south of Israel and the Hamra hills at Kiryat Ono area; taking part in a departmental tour; visiting the botanical gardens of Tel Aviv University under the guidance of Dr. Yuval Sapir and the Steinhardt Museum of Nature at Tel Aviv University, guided by Prof. Tamar Dayan.
