Community-Based and Therapeutic Archaeology

Together with archaeologist Dr. Amit Dagan, we co-founded The Lab for Mending Fragments — a research and educational space operating within the Tell Qana Archaeological Project at Bar-Ilan University. The Lab for Mending Fragments integrates community archaeology with community social work, developing interdisciplinary models that combine excavation and pottery restoration with civic participation, and collaborative meaning-making.
In our work we examine how material traces of the past can foster connection, reflection, and social transformation, especially within temporal spaces marked by destruction, trauma, and renewal.

Through the encounter with archaeological remains, participants engage not only with history, but with layered processes of meaning-making that bridge past and present, rupture and repair.

Community excavations at Tell Qana took place in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The next excavation season is expected to begin on August 29, 2027 and continue throughout September 2027.

The lab operates within the Tell Qana Archaeological Project at Bar-Ilan University.
