Heteroanionic materials

Ionic materials are some of the most commonly used materials in many energy applications. Solid state ionic materials are interesting as everything from semiconductors, thermoelectric materials, batteries, fuel cells, superconductors and more. By mixing different anions in the same structure we are opening a group of materials that is less researched mainly due to the difficulty of producing stable compounds with the correct stoichiometry and composition and the narrow stability window for many of these compounds. In our lab we use precise control over the synthesis conditions including temperature, atmosphere heating rates and material combinations to study the stability and producibility of such materials.
