Israeli President’s Fellowship for Excellence and Scientific Innovation
We’re excited to share that Vika Tarle, a PhD student in our lab, has been awarded the Israeli President’s Fellowship for Excellence and Scientific Innovation. Only 20 doctoral students across all Israeli universities received this honor. Vika develops non‑invasive optical technologies for measuring cerebral blood flow, combining theoretical modeling with experimental systems currently being tested in real operating rooms.
Her work focuses on creating a compact laser‑based device that allows anesthesiologists to continuously monitor blood flow to the brain during surgeries under general anesthesia — a critical capability that does not exist today. The project involves collaborations with research groups in Boston and Japan, as well as clinical testing at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Vika hopes this technology will eventually reach real‑world medical use and help improve patient safety.

New Publication from Our Lab
We’re happy to share a new publication from our team!
Tamar Dror and Victoria Tarle have published their work "Wavelength Time‑Multiplexed Speckle Sensing” in the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics:
You can read the full paper here:
Simultaneous Optical Measurement of Hemoglobin, Cerebral Blood Flow, and Cytochrome-C-Oxidase Changes Via Wavelength Time-Multiplexed Speckle Sensing | IEEE Journals & Magazine | IEEE Xplore
This study presents an innovative multi‑parameter optical approach for tracking several brain‑related signals at once, a great step forward for our group’s neuroimaging research. Congrats!
