ישבנו בנות המחזור הראשון והמרצות בביתם של דפנה ודב ברמת אביב ערב פתיחת שנת הלימודים. דפנה ישבה על אדן חלון המרפסת הגדול, ביקשה שנספר מעט על עצמנו, ואני בעזות פנים מולה אמרתי שאני לא פמיניסטית. דפנה חייכה, לא התעמתה וגם לא נטרה.

כשנתיים אח"כ שוב בביתם של דפנה ודב, הפעם בחדר השינה למרגלות המיטה התאספנו ״הפרחים בגינה של דפנה״ והבאנו לה מתנה; חוברת אסיף של ביכורי מחקר ראשונים של הסטודנטיות בתוכנית. ככה, הכי פשוט שבעולם בשוכבה כואבת על ערש דווי דפנה קיבלה את פנינו באהבה. 

לאחר הביקור דפנה כתבה לי מייל. מצרפת אותו כאן. מילים טובות של פמיניסטית, אשה בעלת עוצמות רוחניות, חדות מחקרית ומעשים ששינו את העולם האקדמי בישראל:

Thank you for your letter – I read it over and over and then field it in my special file - "cancer love letters". I want you to know that you have been a great source of joy and pride to me and to the program. What you have given me is no less than what I have given you. You are an opportunity to prove the legitimacy of the gender program, the untapped great potential of women, the program's ability to attract intelligent, creative people – you have represented us, and I hope you will continue to do so – because there is no better advertisement than the product. Building this program means much to me and now I am in process of assuring its sustainability after I am not around. Would you be willing to be part of a steering committee (vaadat higui) that I am building around the program? Your combination of intelligence, compassion and capacity of work are unbeatable – I look forward to your continue involvement. Will be in touch. Love Dafna.       

בין לבין נפגשנו דרכה עם ג'ודית לורבר, סינתיה אנלו ורבות נוספות, נסענו כולנו יחד בחופשת הסמסטר ליומיים  של סדנאות בשפיים, ארגנו בתמיכתה סדרה של הרצאות, למדנו, התווכחנו, חקרנו ואני הפכתי לפמיניסטית בזכות המפגש עם דפנה האהובה שפתחה לי את הראש ואת השער למי שהשתניתי להיות.
