The Messianic Idea and the Zionist Idea

My research here explores in the mainstream understanding of Zionism and touches upon its connection with the ancient idea of messianism. Specifically, the key role kabbalistic thought played throughout history on shifting the messianic idea from a passive one to an active one that requires human involvement. Beyond courses I have taught on the topic, I am currently working on several articles that focus on predominantly pre-modern and modern figures and how kabbalistic thought shaped their political and diplomatic plans with regard to the Jewish people.
