Prof. Gil S. Epstein
Prof. Gil S. Epstein is a Professor of Economics at Bar-Ilan University, holder of the Sir Isaac Wolfson Chair in Economics. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Bar-Ilan University (2019–2024).
Main Research Areas: Labor Economics, Political Economy, Public Economics, Migration, Public Choice, and AI.
He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Population Economics and an Associate Editor of Economics.
Research Fellow at IZA (Bonn), CReAM (London), GLO (Germany), RWI (Germany), and Ld'A Centro Studi Luca d'Agliano (Milano).
He is also a Member of Academiae Europaeae and a Principle Researcher at the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel.
He received his Ph.D. in Economics and Statistics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1994).
He then spent 2.5 years at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the Department of Economics at Bar-Ilan University.
He has won several prestigious grants and awards.
Epstein has published over 120 publications in political economy, public choice, labor economics, migration, and public policy in leading academic journals.
His book, Endogenous Public Policy and Contests (with Nitzan, Springer) integrates politicians' decision-making with interest groups. He also edited with Ira N. Gang a volume on Migration and Culture (Emerald).
