The CLIM-NET project is a new initiative aimed at uncovering and understanding how different regions and layers of the climate system interact through teleconnections in climate networks. Special emphasis will be placed on teleconnections associated with extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, heavy rainfall, and dust storms, which are expected to intensify under climate change. CLIM-NET will also integrate clouds and vegetation as distinct network layers to better capture their role in triggering and modulating climate extremes. In addition, the project will test the hypothesis of cascading effects, where events in one region trigger chains of impacts elsewhere, and will use observed teleconnection patterns to evaluate and improve climate model performance, including future projections under IPCC climate scenarios.
